India’s renewable energy sector witnessed remarkable progress in 2024, adding nearly 30 GW of new capacity—an astonishing 113% increase from the previous year. This expansion brings India’s total renewable capacity to approximately 218 GW, reinforcing its position as a global leader in clean energy.

Breaking Down the Growth
Unprecedented Expansion: The jump from 13.75 GW in 2023 to 30 GW in 2024 marks a decisive shift toward aggressive renewable adoption.
Government Push: Policy support, financial incentives, and favorable regulations have accelerated project execution.
Industry Participation: Private and public sector players alike have ramped up investments in solar, wind, and hydro energy projects.
The Road to 2030
With a target of 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, India must now add around 50 GW annually. The growth observed in 2024 sets a strong foundation, but sustained efforts in infrastructure, technology, and financing will be crucial.
India’s energy transition is well underway, and with continued momentum, the country is on track to reshape its power landscape while contributing to global sustainability efforts.
